“Drama education in Asian universities—methodological search in drama education through theater”
Learning from Korea National University of Arts

Although Japan has a very short history of cultivating talent in drama (especially performers,) drama education in universities has gone thorough a great change in the past decade. Higher educational institutions and universities in other Asian countries have been working actively on drama education for a long time. Many universities have practical curriculums combining national traditions with advanced methods and systems of the West, producing many great talents that support the drama scene of their own countries. Inviting lecturers from those higher educational institutions, this research project aims to learn the current state of drama education and methodology in universities and higher educational institutions from each other, through workshops and seminars with Japanese researchers. This year the project invites experienced professors who have mastered Western methods from Korea National University of Arts, the most renowned art university in Korea, organizing seminars and workshops focusing especially on “physique and vocalization of actors.”
